Atlantic codfish, a precious resource of the Norwegian Sea.
Lofoten, Norway: to improve their regular allowance, kids have learned to cut out the tongue of the codfish caught in the surrounding sea. The codfish tongue is a speciality in private kitchens and public restaurants.
Then, head and body of the codfish are separated and put up at the drying racks.
Here, tongue-less codfish heads are hanging and waiting to be processed as precious ingredient for animal feed…no need to describe the smell…
The good news: no waste, every part of the codfish is used.
The bad news: codfish is, and has been since years, extremely overfished, because the official fishing quotas are completely ignored. According to the NGO BUND (source: BUND.net) the actual amount of codfish caught in 2020 was 35% above the official fishing quota and 45% above the scientifically recommended fishing quota, which would have helped to at least maintain the codfish population.
Unfortunately, human greed or even mammonism is the major driving force for the destruction of our biodiversity and the lack of sustainable behavior.
